Are you a blogger looking for free photos for your website? A writer looking for inspiration for your book, blog or marketing activity? Or just on the prowl for interesting stuff? 🤔

In developing the plot for my book Float the Boat, I chose the Walsh-McLean House in Washington, DC as a setting for a number of early chapters (see slide included here), not realizing it was steeped in history with a capital H!
Unable to tour the place myself (I live in Korea), a lifelong friend pitched in and sent me photos (those shown here come from the Library of Congress archive). The more I studied them, the more interested I became in the House's history. Silver mines, upper-crust soirees, a cursed diamond, a tragic ending, a new beginning. Like tossing a rock into a pond, the famous place sent ripples through my brain. Soon it influenced the plot, character background and introspection, a middle name, and, finally, a unique island in a huge lake.
The old adage goes: "A picture is worth a thousand words." At times, writers, bloggers, and regular Joes and Janes need the inspiration that can come from interesting photos, vectors and the like. But where to find them without emptying your wallet?
Many can be found online, and a surprising number are completely free to use. A few come with conditions (Ex. attribution). See the image here for several hassle-free sources I use. Be sure to read the terms & conditions before you download anything.
