Frickin' Laser Beams

Surprises await the reader of almost any book whether it's non-fiction, pulp fiction, or a classic. Imagine my surprise when I learned while reading The Odyssey that the Persian cyclops I'd seen as a pre-teen in The 7th Voyage of Sinbad had a Greek cousin named Polyphemus! 👁️ No man is blind to the revelations found in reading!

Surprises await the writer, too. When I wrote Float the Boat, I chose a setting for one chapter based on fond memories of a childhood summer vacation trip and repeated viewings of the home movies over the decades that followed. I thought I knew a lot about the place but was amazed to learn it had a unique connection to laser beam research conducted by the US DOD beginning in the late 1940s!

Test your brain by taking the quiz mentioned in the image and you can learn about it too!
